Round 2 of the 2024/25 GT12 national series saw a second new club hosting their first national event, this time it was the turn of West Bridgeford Model Car Club.

A fast but technical track had been built by the club and the 31 drivers entered were all hoping to make their mark on the day.

Round 1 of Qualifying saw Blackpool winner Matt Gammons take an early lead from top seed Sam Coult less than half a second faster over the 6 minute run, with the next best driver Matt Hunter a further 8 seconds behind.

In round 2 Sam fought back to re-take the top spot in the standings, managing to get the extra lap over the rest of the field at 28 laps, with David Gale jumping into second ahead of Matt Gammons.

Sam Coult retained his lead in round 3, still the only driver with a 28 lap run. Matt Gammons took back second place from Michael Laws in third.

As always round 4 is the one that counts, and Sam retained his top qualifying position, whilst the two Matt's, Gammons and Hunter were both on his tail and all three drivers improved with a 28 lap run.

After a short break, the finals were waiting.

In the D final, John Parker held off Conor Galbraith and Caleb Jones, proving that a wise head can hold off a charge from some of the series younger drivers.

The C final saw Alex Eve take victory from Gavin Rice and Leon Janyshiwskyj.

For the B final, a bit of carnage at the start gave the young Freddie Parker the lead and he held on until the flag, with a great battle for second seeing Simon Galbraith take second from Chris Hammer in third.

It was then up to the fastest 8 of the day to take to the track and battle it out for the overall victory for the day.

A clean start saw Sam Coult and Matt Gammons break away from the rest of the pack, however a small mistake from Matt dropped him back to fourth, but he managed to make a comeback, passing Simon Pole and Matt Hunter to finish second, Matt Hunter finishing third.

The A Final finishing positions:

1st: Sam Coult

2nd: Matt Gammons

3rd: Matt Hunter

4th: Simon Pole

5th: David Gale

6th: Michael Laws

7th: Andrew Slingsby

8th: Josh Flanagan

The GT12 committee would like to thank the West Bridgeford Model car club for their hard work hosting a great event for all the racers involved.

Next stop, back to a more traditional venue at Tamworth in November.
