Round 2 of the BRCA Scottish GT12 Regionals took place last weekend at Lothian Radio Control Car Club. This was the first of two rounds to be held at the Lothian club and an entry of nearly 30 racers made for a great atmosphere in the hall. The Lothian club made the most of their 19m * 12m track size and laid out a technical track that would test the driver’s skills and car setups.
With the series being two rounds from three to count previous round winner John Simpson was looking to take another win and secure the series. However, James Eaves and Graeme Dick currently second and third after round 1 as well as Alex Robertson who was taking part for the first time would be looking to try and take the series to the third round.
Colin Leslie would take the early lead in qualifying and then John would get to grips with the track and move to the front for the remaining rounds, putting his car into pole position for the three leg finals. Alex Robertson would line up second ahead of James Eaves in third. Colin Leslie, Kenneth Rogers and Graeme Dick would complete the A final.
In the first A final leg John would have an early lead before a small mistake would let Alex through who then drove a clean race to take the leg one win with John in second and James in third. Leg 2 would not be so fortunate for the two lead cars who tangled and dropped down the order. James would take the win ahead of Colin and Kenneth. So it was all to play for in leg three and with tenths of a second separating the lap times of the cars in the A final it was sure to be a close race. John would lead from the front with Alex glued to his bumper, James and Kenneth were equally close together just a few car lengths back from the lead pair. With such tight margins a small mistake would be the deciding factor and John touched a track marker pushing him wide allowing Alex through. John would try to recover and chased hard, but Alex would take the win, two tenths of a second ahead to take the overall win for the day. Kenneth would take third ahead of James with these two drivers again being split by two tenths of a second. Super close competitive racing.
