The second round of the BRCA Scottish GT regionals took place on the 4th of January at Lothian Radio Control Car Club. The Lothian club has the largest track area of the championship this year and the club laid a technical track requiring good car setup and clean driving to set a good time.
Qualifying saw a three way battle for pole position between round one’s winner John Simpson, James Eaves and Kenneth Rogers with these three drivers ending qualifying separated by a second. James would line up on pole ahead of John and Kenneth. David Bruce, Colin Leslie and Fraser Leslie would complete the top final.
Leg one would see James and John racing closely for the whole 6 mins with James bringing his car home two tenths of a second ahead of John at the finish line. The rest of the field would finish in qualifying order. Leg 2 would see Kenneth taking the win after passing John and James retiring with an electrical issue. So it was all to play for in leg three. Early mistakes from John and Kenneth would drop them back allowing James to take a tone to tone win. The battle for second place was hard fought with John winning out two tenths ahead of Kenneth at the line. David and Colin would also have a three leg battle with Colin finishing in 4th on the tiebreak from David and Fraser in 6th.
In the equally competitive B final, junior driver Euan McLeod would line up on Pole from Matthew Archer and Robert Rand. Euan would take two leg wins to finish on the top step of the podium from Matthew and Robert.
The C final was won by Colin McCaffery from David White and Fraser McLeod.
The D final was won by Oliver Rand from Sam Rand.
The final round is hosted by Dundee and Angus Radio Control Car Klub in February. .
