RallyX Round 2 Report – NWN

122 competitors joined us at the second round of BRCA RallyX nationals at North West Nitro. During the first four rounds of qualifying on Saturday persistent rain gave track advantages to different heats across the day. Mixing the qualifying scores up for the drivers and keeping it all to play for!

Round 5 of qualifying on Sunday morning was finally dry, with drivers looking to test their set ups on a dry track ready for the mains.

After the five rounds of qualifying the top 3 drivers were: TQ Jonathan Skidmore (XRAY), 2nd William Skidmore (XRAY), and in 3rd position Erik Lykke (Agama)

Semi A

Semi A was led by TQ Jonathan skidmore, at the start of the race he had a cut on the line, a second round of bad luck following the runway at round one! Luckily not too much time was lost and Joni made his way back up the pack during the main, finishing behind Erik Lykke in 2nd.

Mirroring round one, NWN also saw another junior make their first A final, Oliver Nattress (Kyosho) finished in 5th position with a comfortable semifinal drive. Congratulations! To round off the action-packed semi A, a last-minute dash to the line for the final bump up from Jack Willetts (WIRC) in 6th place, Dom Nunn (Mugen) in 7th place, with Josh Graham finishing in 8th were separated by less than a second!

Semi B

Semi B was led throughout by Will Skidmore who finished in 1st place one lap ahead of the rest of the chasing pack. NWN provided some great close racing to the line with Graham Alsop (SWORKS) and Lee Martin (XRAY) finishing within one second of eachother. Followed by another race to the line for the bump up from James Le Pavoux (SWORKS) in 5th, Holger Lykke (Agama) in 6th, Billy Grindley (WIRC) in 7th followed by Kevin Brunsden (Agama) in 8th - all four drivers separated by 3 seconds!

Main final

Will Skidmore led the pack of 14 drivers for the first 10 minutes of the race, closely followed by Joni Skidmore. Unfortunately, just past the 10 minute mark Will suffered a mechanical failure and had to retire from the race. This left both Joni and Erik to battle it out for the 1st place spot.

As the race continued, Ben Simpson (AE) chased down the top three, having a close battle with Erik to gain 2nd place overall and his highest national championship finishing position.

At the start of the race, Will Skidmore led the 14-driver field, maintaining control at the front for the opening ten minutes with Joni Skidmore running closely behind. However, disaster struck just after the ten-minute mark when a mechanical failure forced Will to retire from the race.

This left both Joni and Erik to battle it out for the 1st place spot. With Lewis Jones also closely behind in 4th during this section of the race.

Further back, Ben Simpson (AE) was making impressive progress through the field. Closing the gap to the leading group, Simpson engaged in a close and competitive battle with Erik before securing second place overall. The result marked his highest-ever finishing position in the National Championship to round out a great drive throughout the main.
