A new Champion is crowned
Congratulations to Adam Mackman claiming the 2023/24 Gt12 national championship.
After 5 rounds it couldn't have been closer at the top with both Adam and Sam Coult tied on points at the top with the just the tie break to separate them.
Adam with 2 wins to Sam's 1.
Round 1 West Cornwall
The season kicked off back in September with a trip way down south to a new venue for the GT12 championship and the West Cornwall club played host for the day , despite the track being a little bumpy the club set out a tight challenging track and it was the previous years champion Dan Robins who left with the early championship lead .
P1 Dan Robins
P2 Matt Varrah
P3 Mark Dieterman
Round 2Β Tamworth
A regular venue for the GT12 championship, and with it many of the classes fastest drivers turned out . With over 50 entries proving it to be one of the most popular venues on the calendar . It was to be the two title contenders who topped the time sheets during qualifying and we're only separated by a few 10ths at the end of the final with Adam taking victory although it was Mark Dieterman who now topped the championship table .
P1 Adam Mackman
P2 Sam Coult
P3 Mark Jewitt
Round 3 Chesterfield
Adam and Sam were joined at the top in qualifying by the very fast Louis Parker. With Sam taking TQ , Louis P2 and Adam pushed back to third . With Sam having the home track advantage he looked to be on course for his first win but unfortunately for him it wasn't to be and it was Adam who would be taking home the chocolate .
Mark Dieterman still remained the championship leader .
P1 Adam Mackman
P2 Louis Parker
P3 Ewan Thompson
Round 4 Eastbourne
This time it was to be Morgan Williams who was making a one off appearance and getting in the mix with the front runners. At the end of qualifying it was Sam from Adam and Morgan .
Into the final and after a couple of minutes of racing a collision between the front 3 allowed Matt Gammons into the lead and he never looked back cruising home followed by Morgan and SamΒ .
With this result Adam was confirmed as the new champion as Sam could now only draw level on points and the tie break in Adams favour.
P1 Matt Gammons
P2 Morgan Williams
P3 Sam Coult
Round 5 Stafford
Back to the midlands for the final round
And another great turnout. With Adam sitting this meeting out it was a very young looking line up at the top of the timesheets . In fact all of the top five wereΒ 23 years or younger. At the end of qualifying it was Sam again in pole position but had been pushed hard all day by Ewan Thompson and Scottish racer Alex Robertson making only his 2nd appearance at a Gt12 national.
This time though it was to be Sam's day as he led from start to finish and tieing on points at the top of the championship with Adam .
P1 Sam Coult
P2 Alex Robertson
P3 Michael laws
The celebrations were not over for the Mackman family as young Chase (13) takes the junior title to round off a very successful season for father and son.
What will 2024 bring? More Mackman domination, can Coult turn his great qualifying into race victory's and with drivers like Gammons and Thompson in the fight for podium places will we see another new champion?
