The second round  of the 2024 season was held on the weekend of 18th/19th May

at the technical Wombwell circuit in South Yorkshire. A good forecast for the whole weekend with Sun throughout for the 37 drivers who had entered 

Due to time and noise restrictions it was decided not to run open practice on the Sunday morning . This meant it was possible to run four full rounds of qualifying. 

Lap times gradually improved throughout the heats as drivers tried to get their best runs in. At the end of qualifying the positions were as follows:

The legs were shared so close with Paul taking the win with veteran Bob in second, and Martin in third.

The top three in qualifying replicated these positions in all 3 legs which may a first. TQ Mark Green dominating throughout.

2nd - Craig Nutting (X-Ray)

3rd - Adam Griffith (Serpent) 

B Final 1/10

Stephen Brooke led from the start with a chasing Dev Mahatme eventually taking the lead. Unfortunately Dev made some mistakes late in the race allowing Stephen to take the win by 8 seconds. Frank managed to hold off Jon to complete the podium.

A Final 1/10

 

TQ Alex Thurston led throughout to take the win by 2 laps . However the battle for the remaining podium places was very tight with the next three drivers after 30 minutes all finishing on 88 laps. Bailey finished 2nd just 4 seconds in front of Richard, with Matt Baker only another 6 seconds further back.

An enjoyable weekend’s racing with special thanks to locals Trevor and Barbara for running the meeting so smoothly. The next round is a return to Wombwell on the 6th/7th of July.
